A Hare Grows in Manhattan ReviewA Hare Grows in Manhattan Review

A Hare Grows in Manhattan is a 1947 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a dated flick.

This film heavily relies on the then recently released book ‘A Tree Grows in Brooklyn’ and I haven’t read it so anyone not familiar with the novel itself will be lost here as I did not catch either of the references. The ending in particular entirely went over my head.

But the remainder of the cartoon has its moments for sure. Bugs is particularly good here and for once rather meditative at some points in the story which was an interesting departure for the character. I personally loved that Tweety reference which was hilarious, though definitely odd. The animation and score are also good. It’s an amusing, but rarely truly hilarious cartoon.

A Hare Grows in Manhattan has some very interesting and fun sequences, but overall it’s overly timely with the book references.

My Rating – 3.7
