It’s Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown is a 1984 animated television special and the 27th entry in the Peanuts series. It is a dated, slight entry.

It isn’t too difficult to realize why this Peanuts entry is very dated as it is basically a collection of song and dance sequences that are influenced by popular music from the early 1980s. And while I liked most of the songs here, I still felt that it was too much of its time and that was a bad thing because Peanuts has always had a timeless quality to it which is why I dislike its tendency to go into modern territory.

It also has no plot whatsoever and it is just a musical filled with song after song. However, the special is still somewhat fun and pleasantly cheesy. I liked Charlie Brown’s frustration with Snoopy. We’ve seen that before, but it is always great to see again. And speaking of Snoopy, he is easily the highlight here as his musical parts were just a lot of fun. And I really enjoyed the titular song which was so catchy and amusing.

Overall, It’s Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown has its fun scenes, but it is mostly dated and lacks in substance.

My Rating – 3
