False Hare Review

False Hare Review

False Hare is a 1964 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very funny short.

Big Bad Wolf and his nephew use a club for rabbits, Club del Conejo, to try to catch Bugs. This short saw the last official appearance of Foghorn Leghorn during the classic era of Warner Bros. cartoons, but he only showed in a cameo toward the end, which is barely worth counting as a role, though it was a fun cameo for sure. The wolves are the main characters here. The nephew character seemed to have no purpose at the end of the day as he was too reminiscent to Sylvester Jr.

But the senior wolf was very memorable and quite amusing. The highlight of the short is watching Bugs humiliate this wolf to no end. The unique aspect to this story is that Bugs is literally winking to the audience this time around, being quite aware of what he is doing. There is no ambiguity whatsoever. He is in on the joke and that was very funny to witness. The beginning where he talked about the silly wolf was hilarious.

False Hare is particularly memorable for Bugs’ very knowing and winking attitude, which made the short highly entertaining and very humorous.

My Rating – 4.1
