Doctor Who Season 25 Review

The twenty fifth season of Doctor Who is a middling season with half of the episodes being solid and half being subpar and mediocre.

Doctor Who Season 25 Review

Remembrance of the Daleks is actually a pretty strong Dalek-centered story even though I dislike them. But the serial suited my interest because it featured Davros whom I always love to see and because it gave us a glimpse into the Doctor’s history. A very engaging story for sure.

The Happiness Patrol is definitely way too silly for its own sake and too colorful and campy, but also a lot of fun. Not all episodes here work as the last one is mediocre, but the first two are pretty solid and the serial succeeds in what it’s trying to do which is being entertaining.

Silver Nemesis is basically a remake in a way of Remembrance of the Daleks which is beyond frustrating as they are basically remaking a story from this same season. I do not get it and it annoyed me. However, even though the first two episodes are forgettable, the last one is actually pretty good and a fine conclusion without a doubt. Lady Peinforte proved to be a very competent, highly memorable villain.

The Greatest Show in the Galaxy is overly influenced by 50s circus movies and it thus felt dated and campy. It had some good potential with the clowns and everything, but it ended up being too silly for its own sake and way too slight.

I continue to really like Sophie Aldred as Ace. She portrayed her really well and Ace surely is a very interesting, different than usual female companion to the Doctor as she looks and acts in a more butch way which is refreshing. And I really like her as she is still very sweet and endearing.

As for the Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy is thankfully getting better in the role, but because these seasons are the shortest of the entire show’s run, he definitely did not leave a lasting impression when compared to his predecessors.

Overall, this season is pretty solid with some very strong serials and although it has its fair share of silly and campy episodes, half of the episodes are very solid and entertaining leading to a pretty unremarkable, but harmless season.

Worst Serial: The Greatest Show in the Galaxy.

Best Serial: Remembrance of the Daleks.

Worst Episodes: The Happiness Patrol Part Three, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy Part Two and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy Part Three.

Best Episodes: Remembrance of the Daleks Part Three, Remembrance of the Daleks Part Four and Silver Nemesis Part Three.

My Rating – 3.3
