Doctor Who Season 18 Review

The eighteenth season of Doctor Who is another weak season and the last one featuring the Fourth Doctor played by Tom Baker.

And I really did not mind saying goodbye to him as I never liked him particularly. I am Looking forward to what Peter Davison is going to bring to the table and I hope he’s more memorable. As for this season, it is another pretty mediocre one with only a couple of solid serials.

The Leisure Hive is another pretty tired premise and a pretty ordinary, previously seen Doctor Who serial which doesn’t distinguish itself from others at all. Meglos deals with a solid alien structure, but when it introduced theft into its storyline, it became much more forgettable and uninteresting.

Full Circle has a better first half than the second weaker one, but it does feature a pretty solid, mysterious storyline with a pretty good mood to it. State of Decay is probably the finest story of this season. Certainly the vampire angle is lame, but I loved the story nonetheless as it was an interesting alternative history story which works as a historical with aliens thrown into the mix and those show’s episodes are usually the best.

Warriors’ Gate I honestly did not see because it is not available for streaming so I cannot possibly comment upon it. The Keeper of Traken is your regular creature feature which is boring and entirely disposable. Logopolis definitely is solid. I liked that it has the Master in it finally and it features a pretty solid script. But this is one of the weakest regenerations so far as it was particularly forgettable and those scenes should be unforgettable.

In the end, this season definitely has its good serials, but most of them are way too boring, uninspired and far too typical for this show. The show is definitely feeling pretty stale and repetitive by this point and I do hope that the Fourth Doctor changes that. I hope he brings freshness to the series that desperately needs it.

Worst Episodes: The Leisure Hive Part One, The Leisure Hive Part Two, The Keeper of Traken Part Two and The Keeper of Traken Part Three.

Best Episodes: State of Decay Part One, State of Decay Part Two, State of Decay Part Three and State of Decay Part Four.

My Rating – 3.3
