Wagon Heels is a 1945 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an unnecessary remake.
This is yet another Merry Melodies remake which did not justify its existence for me. The only reason why it was redone in the first place was to add color to it. And yes, it looks very nice, but still that wasn’t a valid enough reason to do a remake and that just felt lazy for me.
That being said, the film still has its different sequences such as the somewhat changed ending and some previous scenes also play out a bit differently, but most of it remains frustratingly the same. I did like seeing this short again and being reminded of its very fun third act and that crazy Indian character, but still this remains easily the weakest Warner Bros. short of the year.
Wagon Heels looks good, but otherwise it’s a pointless remake that did not justify its existence at all.
