Toy Trouble ReviewToy Trouble Review

Toy Trouble is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very solid short.

Toy Trouble stars Sniffles the mouse who is always a welcome character in my book and here he gets the best short in quite a while. He and the bookworm explore a toy shop when suddenly a cat attacks them. I found that first half okay, but way too slow and too much of a build up whereas the second half is the standout one.

I liked it because the cat was actually quite menacing and the cat and mouse chase here was given a refreshing reworking with Sniffles hiding between all the Porky Pig toys which looked simply wonderful. That was a very slow scene that worked as it added to the suspense. Although I liked all three of its characters, they were let down by a weak conclusion.

Toy Trouble has a problematic conclusion, but very strong, suspenseful second half and memorable characters.

My Rating – 3.7
