Top Ten Creedence Clearwater Revival Songs

Creedence Clearwater Revival is by far one of my favorite rock bands as I really like their style, their sensibilities and a lot of their songs. The band itself is very underrated and needs to be appreciated more as their songs are meaningful, greatly sung and instantly memorable in beat. So without further ado, here are my picks for ten of their best numbers.

10. Hello Mary Lou

Hello Mary Lou suffers from its short length and an overall familiarity factor to it, but still it’s undeniably fun and catchy in both its verse and in its chorus. It’s far from great, but it’s short and sweet.

9. Someday Never Comes

Someday Never Comes is somewhat different from all of these songs here as a more serious and calmer number and that worked for me despite its apparent repetitiveness. I really liked the vocals and the chorus here.

8. The Midnight Special

What I said for the above entry mostly goes for The Midnight Special as well. It’s a fun song which gets rather repetitive when you listen to it more, but overall it’s entertaining enough to earn the eighth spot on this list.

7. Call It Pretending

This one is very underrated and it needs to be respected more as it’s throughout immensely catchy as both the verse and especially the chorus are very catchy and amusing with the lyrics and the overall tone of the song being quite cheeky and fun.

6. Proud Mary

Now we finally come to the songs which really showcase the singers’ great singing capabilities. Though the chorus is fun, I particularly liked the fun verse here and even more so the pre-chorus with the “burning” word being so hilariously pronounced by the singer.

5. Down on the Corner

Down on the Corner is one of the most memorable Creedence Clearwater Revival songs which is bound to sound familiar even to those not usually in the know with their music. It’s a particularly catchy song in its refrain and it’s also beautifully composed.

4. Lodi

Lodi is another somewhat underrated song which clearly belongs in the top five for the studio. I absolutely love it in its entirety and I particularly appreciate its meaningful lyrics and its superb verse which is even better than the chorus here. The song is more serious which I really dig.

3. Fortunate Son

Fortunate Son is undoubtedly the most instantly recognizable song from this band which is definitely a bit too aggressive for my personal taste, but undeniably iconic, powerfully sung, majestic, catchy and superb throughout all of its parts.

2. Bad Moon Rising

This one and my first pick are the two songs which are vastly superior to the rest of this list when it comes to my taste and ranking. Bad Moon Rising instantly makes you feel unease and that something bad is going to happen owing to its very descriptive, powerful lyrics, but it’s also stupendously entertaining and catchy literally throughout its entire very short runtime. The beginning of the song is my favorite and the music itself I adore.

1. Have You Ever Seen the Rain

This one is a roots rock meaning that it quite resembles in particular a country song and I am okay with that as it’s the best kind of country – emotional and descriptive. I loved the song’s descriptions of the rain and the sun, but the deeper meaning that everything is going to be okay after an experienced hard time is wonderful. It’s not only a deep song, but it’s also beautifully sung and simply irresistibly catchy in its tempo and refrain. To me, it’s the only clear winner.
