To Gerard Review
To Gerard is a 2020 animated short film directed by Taylor Meacham. It’s a sweet, but familiar movie.
It is about a mailman who becomes a magician when he tries to brighten a little girl’s day. It’s an endearing movie with particularly polished animation. The character designs are solid and the effects are excellent. The score is also majestic and even magical while all of it was quite moving and tugging on the heartstrings.
The problem here was the familiarity of it all. We’ve seen movies about magicians many times before, especially in animation. ‘The Illusionist’ immediately springs to mind. Nothing here was particularly original. It’s a perfect example of a movie that is overall quite good despite its predictability.
