The Ren & Stimpy Show Season 5 Review

The fifth season of The Ren & Stimpy Show is pretty much the same as its predecessor. That means it has its strong outings, but most of it is just okay.

The Ren & Stimpy Show Season 5 Review

Space Dogged is a solid space-based episode, Feud for Sale is rather annoying in its stereotypes and Hair of the Cat is a rare strong episode that focuses on Stimpy’s hair in a very amusing fashion. City Hicks and Stimpy’s Pet are both fine, but nothing particularly memorable or new.

Ren’s Brain is an excellent episode that is very imaginative in his brain getting a life all of its own. These kinds of episodes usually work best for the show, and I wish we got more of them. Bellhops is nothing to write home about, but Dog Tags is such a hilarious episode that focuses on the confusion that Ren is a dog to its comedic advantage. I’ve personally always confused the two’s identities as they look nothing like a regular cat or a regular dog.

I Was a Teenage Stimpy is a solid, odd episode that focuses very obviously on pornography which made it super awkward. Who’s Stupid Now? sees the two switch bodies, and the results are solid situational comedy. School Mates features such an annoying central character that the whole episode suffered as a result.

Dinner Party is mostly serving as a filler of sorts. Big Flakes benefits from its very well utilized snowy surroundings. Pen Pals has a fine premise, but not that great of an execution. Terminal Stimpy deals with death and the acceptance of it. That makes it very dark and admirable.

Reverend Jack is weird too much, A Scooter for Yaksmas is a weird, but very fun episode as is the usual for these types of installments. Sammy and Me is very boring and uninspired. The Last Temptation deals with Ren being nicer to Stimpy, and the results are quite sweet.

Overall, I liked quite a couple of episodes in this season, but most are way too forgettable and uninspired. Overall, the show peaked in the first two seasons, and everything that came afterward wasn’t that great. I like the show overall, but it’s wildly uneven unfortunately.

Worst Episodes: City Hicks, School Mates and Reverend Jack.

Best Episodes: Space Dogged, Ren’s Brain and Dog Tagged.

My Rating – 3.6
