The Loose Nut Review

The Loose Nut is a 1945 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a forgettable short.

Woody Woodpecker goes to the park for a game of golf and quickly gets at odds with a worker who is laying a cement walk. This movie has one thing going for it – a fairer fight between Woody and his enemy. This made the film more interesting and certainly better balanced. I liked the worker quite a bit. There is also that wonderful last scene with the steamroller. It benefits from the abstract, modern animation style that made the movie quite groundbreaking for the time.

With that being said, I still did not love this one. That is because the flick had no energy in its execution. The pacing is awfully slow, preventing it from ever becoming wholly entertaining. There is also the lack of more memorable gags and the setting overall just wasn’t as intriguing as some of the previous ones.

The Loose Nut is a movie that ended greatly, but overall it left a lot to be desired in terms of humor and pacing.

My Rating – 3.5
