The Heckling Hare ReviewThe Heckling Hare Review

The Heckling Hare is a 1941 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a good, but not great short.

Bugs Bunny returns in this short where he torments Willoughby the dog this time around. The animation is pretty stellar here and the action is well executed. The ending is definitely memorable, but odd for a Bugs cartoon and I could definitely see why Tex Avery was so mad that he ended up leaving Warner Bros. for some time.

So the contentious relationships behind this film are certainly revelatory as the movie itself also feels like a rushed product. I did like Willoughby quite a bit here as he was endearing and with some good lines. Bugs himself is quite amusing, but some of his scenes are repeated from previous films and he isn’t as edgy here as he was in previous movies.

So The Heckling Hare is a good film with very good animation and good character interactions, but it’s lacking in strong humor.

My Rating – 3.9
