Scent-imental Romeo ReviewScent-imental Romeo Review

Scent-imental Romeo is a 1951 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a good short.

Pepe finally returns and he chases Penelope who of course refuses him and constantly hits him with something. What I really liked here was the inclusion of some very strong choices in terms of music in particular. Baby Face I loved seeing here as that song is so catchy and endearing, and it was perfectly used.

The film is, as most Pepe cartoons are, very oddly paced and structured as its episodic nature can be problematic, especially in the middle parts. I personally really liked those more romantic or French moments whereas the beginning and ending themselves are less memorable.

Scent-imental Romeo is weakly edited, but it has a couple of really standout moments throughout.

My Rating – 3.9
