Rhapsody Rabbit ReviewRhapsody Rabbit Review

Rhapsody Rabbit is a 1946 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a problematic Bugs Bunny outing.

This film is very curious. It is so incredibly similar to the Tom and Jerry classic ‘The Cat Concerto’ that I thought it was either a parody of it or a rip-off at first. But then I understood that apparently both MGM and Warners accused each other of plagiarism and apparently the huge similarities between the two films were simply a coincidence.

Comparing it to that classic, it’s much weaker. Singularly judging it, it has its strengths and its weaknesses. Bugs himself is awesome and the first contains all the best gags with that telephone call being hilarious and that darker murder moment being instantly memorable. But the second half with the mouse was uninspired and it dragged the entire film down significantly. The score and animation are both terrific though.

Rhapsody Rabbit looks and sounds great with a terrific first half, but the second half left a lot to be desired.

My Rating – 3.9
