Hors Piste is a 2019 French animated short film that was shortlisted for an Oscar.
Two men who have been working on rescue missions for most of their life set out on one more assignment. However, things do not go as planned, leading to hilarious situations. I really liked this film, but more on the technical side of things instead of really in terms of plot or characterization, though the characters are lively and endearing.
The plot is somewhat problematic as it felt repetitive, and a mix of realism and cartoony physics was somewhat awkward in my opinion. But the animation is absolutely amazing as the mountain with the trees and snow felt very much alive, and enchanting even. Even more so, the score is fantastic, very energetic and modern.
Hors Piste is not great in terms of storytelling, but it looks great and in particular it sounds phenomenal.
