Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives Movie Review
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is a 1986 slasher film directed by Tom McLoughlin and starring Thom Mathews. It’s one of the better entries in the series.

any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly“

Tommy returns to the grave to check if Jason is surely dead, but accidently brings him back to life. Tommy has to stop Jason’s ruthless killings and put him back where he belongs. This is just a passable movie, but in this mediocre franchise it’s easily among the better ones. The plot and the characterization are still quite poor, but the fun factor is pretty high.
What I appreciated in this sequel is its irreverent tone and even some meta humor that was interesting to witness in this pre-‘Scream’ era. I wish that the other installments are this entertaining and silly.
So, the tone worked and the action set pieces were also fun. This movie features the most action and most car chases by far and most of them were solidly executed and entertaining. The flick is brisk and thoroughly enjoyable.
Jason Lives also has a couple of memorable kill scenes and Jason is suitably menacing here. Thom Mathews was very good in the main role as the only character that was at least a bit developed. The rest fared much worse and were all forgettable.

Technically speaking, it’s a rough film with no discernible qualities of its own. I did not care for the characters or their relationships and I found the central premise ridiculous. The first half is very rough, but the second half is much better, much more entertaining and infinitely more memorable with the final scene being the most striking one.
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives is one of the better entries in this middling franchise thanks to a pleasingly irreverent tone and meta humor employed. The plot and the characters are still very poor, but the kill scenes are memorable and the action set pieces are fun. It’s a very silly, but undeniably entertaining flick.
My Rating – 3
