Boom is a 2023 animated short film. It’s a fun, but slight short.
A pair of clumsy birds try their best to protect their eggs from a volcanic eruption. This movie was shortlisted for an Oscar and it did not deserve that recognition. It’s one of those CGI animated flicks that rely heavily on humor, but aren’t original or unique in any way. The plot is predictable and familiar with the volcano erupting on an island and these birds escaping a terrible faith.
The action and humor are only okay. The animation is stellar and quite polished and the birds are amusing and cute. A couple of moments here were quite entertaining. But the thin plot and its overreliance on action hurt it in the long run. It is way too reminiscent to the Ice Age franchise, being a copy of Scrat adventures from that series.
