Apes of Wrath Review

Apes of Wrath Review

Apes of Wrath is a 1959 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty fun short.

The drunken stork loses his baby ape for Mr. and Mrs. Elvis Ape on a jungle island. So, he knocks out Bugs Bunny and delivers him instead. What I loved about this movie is the dynamic between the apes and the bunny. It was a lot of fun. The best moments were in the second act while the rest of the cartoon was less memorable.

I really liked that twist ending that brought Daffy into the proceedings. It was unexpected and funny. However, I wish the rest of the short had Daffy in it because this crazy duck makes all of these cartoons much more hilarious. The animation is solid and the dialogue is fine, but Bugs is not as memorable here as he often is.

Apes of Wrath features a fun central dynamic and a solid twist ending, but Bugs himself should have been more memorable.

My Rating – 3.7
