A Witch’s Tangled Hare Review

A Witch’s Tangled Hare is a 1959 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is such a great entry.

Witch Hazel is back and she tries to cook Bugs Bunny, but he escapes. She chases him to the castle and this is where many gags await. Although the mixing of Shakespeare satirical elements and the scenes with the witch aren’t always smoothly handled and the final gag was obvious and expected, most of the gags were excellent and these two are so much fun together.

The Romeo and Juliet gag was hilarious and the witch getting a love interest here was also very interesting. I also loved her lines about her modesty. Those were hilarious. The animation is absolutely incredible – very richly detailed, polished and gorgeous to look at. Bugs is funny here, but Hazel actually steals the short from him.

A Witch’s Tangled Hare looks beautiful and it’s very funny. The short has amazing dialogue. It is uneven at times, but the premise was excellent and Witch Hazel steals the show here.

My Rating – 4.2
