A Mutt in a Rut Review

A Mutt in a Rut Review

A Mutt in a Rut is a 1959 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very funny cartoon.

Elmer Fudd’s dog named Rover (or “Wover” as he calls him hilariously) is sick and tired of the poor treatment that he receives. He wants a warm bed and to sleep indoors. Fueled by dog propaganda on television, he tries to murder his master while hunting only for each of his plans to backfire and for him to realize that his master is a great man. This is a very interesting, original twist on the dog-human friendship story and it really works.

While the scenes in nature should have been longer and funnier, the most humorous parts are the television stuff. The ending where he goes to beat the dog who had been spewing lies on that dog propaganda channel was the funniest part of the flick. Wover is such a fun character and Elmer is just as likable as he always is. The animation here is also quite good.

Elmer’s best cartoons are usually the ones about his pets and A Mutt in a Rut is no different – this is an original, very funny short that features an excellent ending.

My Rating – 4.2
