Mickey’s Mellerdrammer Review

Mickey’s Mellerdrammer is a 1933 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a weaker entry.

Mickey and company present their own rendition of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and this is of course an interesting idea for a Mickey Mouse short, but the execution is not great unfortunately. I liked Goofy here quite a bit per usual and there are some fun gags and solid animation work, but the plot is lacking.

They never made use of this famous story all that well and most of the short is actually them preparing for the play and there is very little enacting of it on screen. And of course the short is very racist owing to a bunch of racist caricature moments. It isn’t as racist as it easily could have been awful, but it’s still pretty bad.

Mickey’s Mellerdrammer has its moments, but it is mostly a weaker execution of a pretty solid idea.
