The Art of Skiing Review

The Art of Skiing Review

The Art of Skiing is a 1941 animated short film from the Goofy series. It is a terrific film that is one of the best in the series.

The narrator uses Goofy as an example to explain how to ski, showing different styles. This short represents the peak of the series. It was the first one to do this concept, leading eventually to the ‘How to’ subseries. It’s, thus, both crucial and also superbly made. The movie is still nowhere near as fun or as funny as the best Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse shorts, but it comes awfully close nonetheless.

Goofy here has his signature holler and I loved that yodeling. It made the film even more atmospheric and fittingly German. The animation is absolutely fantastic. The backgrounds are super polished and gorgeous to behold. The montane setting came to life vividly. Goofy here doesn’t speak and he just yodels, which was a great choice as it made him even more endearing. The action on screen is also better than average. The situations aren’t the most memorable ones, but they were still very well executed and pretty amusing. The narration was phenomenal and quite witty while that ending was perfect.

The Art of Skiing is one of the best Goofy cartoons thanks to a gorgeous location beautifully brought to life, solid scenarios and a great ending.

My Rating – 4.2
