Room on the Broom (2013)

Room on the Broom Review
Room on the Broom is a 2013 animated short film based on the titular picture book. It’s a charming, but slight flick.
A witch is thankful to three animals that help her find her belongings and fight a fire-breathing dragon. In order to give them a ride on her broom, she creates a new, spacious broom to fit them all. This movie disappointed me. I’d expected greater things from it judging by the strong reviews that it got, but it was to me only solid. The plot is nothing to write home about and the themes are also lacking here. It’s a children’s flick that isn’t all that memorable for adults.
The animation is standard fare for shorts. The character designs are too angular, but striking. The overall look of the film is unpolished, but charming. The score is actually stupendous and the highlight of the film. It’s very tender and its main hook was so strong. The characters did not get much development, but they worked as a group more so than individually. The structure is repetitive and quickly its charm wore off for me due to that repetition.
