Big Mouth Season 8 Review

The eighth season of Big Mouth premiered on Netflix in 2025. It’s a very good season that closed off the entire series on a satisfactory note.

Big Mouth Season 8 Review

Homecumming is the first episode and it’s quite strong. Andrew and Nick have yet another friendship crisis while the highlight was Matthew’s storyline. Him wanting to suck Jay off could have been handled poorly, but the end result was a nice message about the importance of doing something new sexually with a person that you know and care about.

Cliques, Pricks and Sonic’s Dick isn’t the greatest episode, but it mostly worked. Nick’s class-oriented subplot was fun, but it didn’t quite fit this show. Jessi and Jay parenting a melon was so amusing. Jay was both funny and vulnerable here as we realize why it’s so important for him to parent this melon as a real baby. He’s such a tragic character. I just wished that they did not paint Armenian families in such a stereotypically horrendous light.

Why Do We Go Through Puberty? is one of those highly imaginative Big Mouth episodes that use its medium so well to deliver splendid results. I appreciated the fact that Nick had a growth spurt and finally grew up physically. The scenes inside the body were so memorable and the animation was excellent here. It’s the most epic and creative episode of the bunch and the most educational one.

Lola Skumpy: License to Drive is very funny in the titular Lola premise. She has always been one of the funniest creations on the show. The rest of the episode is all about the parent-child arguments. Jessi and her mom have a lovely storyline while Nick and his mom have a cringe-worthy, but relatable to many situation to handle.

Am I Smoking Too Much Weed? is just a setup for the next episode, being itself one of the weaker installments of the season. Everyone Watches Porn is where many of the season’s storylines pay off in dividends. It’s by far the most entertaining installment and the best-written one. Missy and Andrew’s story was quite interesting and I wished that the show really paired the two together as they are a solid fit.

Jessi overreacting to her boyfriend watching porn was very realistic and well explored while Nick learning that porn isn’t real life in a very bad way was also important to showcase. Matthew diving into the gay porn world literally only to find out that he still doesn’t know what he’s into and that that is okay was the best part of the episode. It was an imaginative and wild story that ended in a very positive message.

Have Some Goddamn Compassion didn’t quite work as this Compassion Pachyderm was a rushed character that wasn’t all that interesting to me. I liked the concept for sure, but the execution was only middling. Horny Talky Yes Please finally reunited Lola and Jay, which I loved as the two are a perfect fit for each other. This episode shows so well the importance of talking about what you are into sexually with your partner and how to do it in a sexy instead of dry manner.

Everything We Forgot to Tell You About Sex has its moments for sure and is surprisingly solid for what is essential a filler episode, but a filler it remains. Maury and Connie answering questions about sex did produce some amusing results, but the haphazard structure did it no favors.

The Great Unknown is a wonderful finale that I didn’t fully love as it didn’t finish every storyline properly, but for the most part it was a satisfying sendoff for our favorite teenagers. The final scene was very moving. I wished that we got the opportunity to see them as adults, but how they ended it was still strong. The highlight was that surprisingly touching and absolutely hilarious departure scene between Maury and Andrew. That was just Big Mouth perfection.

Overall, the eighth season of Big Mouth ended the entire show on a very strong note. It has its weaker episodes for sure, ones that are haphazard and almost like filler, but those that worked were excellent. The finale was a lovely sendoff. Maury was as hilarious as ever, Nick had a great growing up and learning about compassion arc, Lola and Jay shared an expectedly entertaining dynamic, Matthew learning about gay sex was very well done, Missy accepting her dorkiness was endearing, and of course Andrew was the pillar of the season as well as the whole show. It’s a great season that was sadly the last one and I am sorely going to miss this wildly imaginative, fun and educational show.

Worst Episodes: Have Some Goddamn Compassion and Everything We Forgot to Tell You About Sex.

Best Episodes: Homecumming, Everyone Watches Porn and The Great Unknown.

My Rating – 4
