Franken-Stymied

Franken-Stymied Review

Franken-Stymied is a 1961 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a pretty solid flick.

Woody escapes from the rain and lightning into the castle of a mad scientist. The scientist’s latest invention, a chicken-plucking robot name Frankie, has awoken, and thinks Woody is a chicken. First off, the gags and situations in this movie are uninspired, predictable and far from genuinely funny. The movie should have been much stronger given its fine premise.

But it still largely worked due to a silly premise that was at least somewhat amusing and a very good horror atmosphere. The story makes no sense, which is what I liked about it. The scientist and the robot are more memorable than Woody, who is rather forgettable this time around.

Franken-Stymied has a silly, but fun premise. It worked due to that cartoony nature, but the gags and situations really should have been more memorable.

My Rating – 3.5
