The Worm Turns (1937)
The Worm Turns Review
The Worm Turns is a 1937 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a pretty weak flick.
Mickey makes a potion that makes anyone who drinks it strong and courageous. He gives it to various animals so that they can fight their chasers. I loved the first opening shot with Mickey making a potion as a scientist, that was quite atmospheric and memorable. Also, the scenes with the mouse are pretty solid.
However, most of the other scenes fail to be either funny or particularly inventive. The premise should have led to a more innovative film which unfortunately this film simply isn’t. It plays it safe, the scenes with Pluto are rehashes from previous films with dogcatchers and Mickey disappears pretty quickly. I loved the animation for sure and the score is well incorporated into the action, but the movie is simply badly paced and dull.
The Worm Turns looks good and it has a fine premise, but it’s weakly executed with not enough humor or inventiveness in it.
