Wimmin Hadn't Oughta Drive ReviewWimmin Hadn’t Oughta Drive Review

Wimmin Hadn’t Oughta Drive is a 1940 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is the best entry in quite a while.

Yes, this short is easily the best in the series in years. It is such a glorious return to form and to its roots. Popeye teaches Olive how to drive with expectedly hilarious results. Yes, the film is sexist in portraying women is incompetent drivers, but it is also funny in that and I laughed more than a couple of times. The humor is so strong and the premise is so fantastic for this series that I wonder why they haven’t done it before.

It isn’t the greatest entry as the ending could have been better, but almost every sequence and moment before it worked. Not only is it a great showcase of both Popeye and Olive’s characters, but also of their relationship. They are so great together and this is a perfect showcase of Popeye’s frustration with her, but also the evident love that he has for her.

Wimmin Hadn’t Oughta Drive has a phenomenal premise superbly executed with great humor and a great use of both Popeye and Olive.

 My Rating – 4.3
