Blue Cat Blues ReviewBlue Cat Blues Review

Blue Cat Blues is a 1956 animated short that is the 103rd Tom and Jerry cartoon. It is such a pleasantly different and mature entry.

A really admire Blue Cat Blues. In fact, it is one of the most authentic Tom and Jerry shorts ever as it is just so original and so mature in tone. Tom wants to commit suicide and Jerry recollects everything that had led up to that moment. It turns out that Tom has been chasing a white cat who chose Butch because he’s wealthier and left Tom heartbroken. It is such a poignant story and definitely important.

The problem here is that it is too serious and it needed some humor to lighten things up a bit. But I still respect that it went there as the themes here truly are dark. I loved the structure of the film with the narration being excellent and Jerry being superbly utilized. That ending I saw coming, but it was still effective and memorable. And it is great that the two are definite friends here. The film is so well crafted and so well edited that it is one of the most polished entries in the series.

Blue Cat Blues is so authentic and different in its mature tone while also being heartbreaking and so phenomenally well made.
