The Framed Cat ReviewThe Framed Cat Review

The Framed Cat is a 1950 animated short that is the 53rd Tom and Jerry cartoon. It is such a disappointing, clichéd entry.

Yes, the plot here is incredibly familiar and seen many times before in the series. That is the main reason why I found this short to be very disappointing. The use of Spike is very typical and unfortunately he is very boring this time around. Jerry is also pretty forgettable and Tom is the only one who is quite amusing in this entry. And the action in the second half is so dull and clichéd.

However, the film still has its strengths which are twofold. The first one is the beginning which is phenomenal and a perfect opening for the film. I really liked all of that action and Mammy was great. The second highlight is definitely that first scene with Spike in which his tongue is animated as a hand that tries to find and grab the bone. That little moment was precious as it is so memorable and clever. I just wish that the rest of the short wasn’t as derivative as it turned out to be.

The Framed Cat has a couple of winner scenes that are priceless, but the rest is some typical fare with boring action and this is not a good way to use Spike at all.

My Rating – 3.5
