Porky's Romance ReviewPorky’s Romance Review

Porky’s Romance is a 1937 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very competent entry.

Now again we’ve seen something like this before. Not only this bad romance and a horrible love interest but also the employment of the extended dream sequence so the movie is not original. But it is so well made that it is still one of the best Looney Tunes so far. So Porky is in love with Petunia, but she is horrible to him and once he tries to hang himself (yes, a very dark turn!), he enters a dream where he sees how horribly she would treat him if they ended up together so he runs away from her after waking up.

I also loved that he punched that awful dog. He was incredibly mean and bad to Porky and he deserved it and it was so funny seeing him get punched. The movie is very mean spirited toward Porky and the whole candy plot point is very unfortunate when it comes to him. But still it works as you thus root for him much more. I would like to see Petunia back as she was quite memorable here. The animation is also very good.

Porky’s Romance is dark, but quite funny at times, very well animated and with a really well told story.

My Rating – 4.2
