Olive's Boithday Presink ReviewOlive’s Boithday Presink Review

Olive’s Boithday Presink is a 1941 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a very good, old-fashioned entry in the series.

We again do not see Olive which is frustrating even more this time around as she’s in the title. But apart from that and the weaker beginning, this short is surprisingly good and sometimes even reaching the heights previously established by the first couple of years in Popeye’s filmography.

I loved everything about that bear. Watching Popeye struggle with killing it was excellent and that sequence in which the bear says goodbye to his wife and bear cubs is pretty funny and so well incorporated. But the ending is awesome. The fight is excellent, the use of spinach is so good and visually interesting and that last moment when he beats the bear, but he stays alive and Popeye only gets the coat which he wanted in the first place was absolutely fantastic and the finest possible way to end this cartoon.

Olive’s Boithday Presink is a pleasantly old-fashioned Popeye entry with pretty good humor and many great moments with the bear.

 My Rating – 4.2
