Shakespearean Spinach ReviewShakespearean Spinach Review

Shakespearean Spinach is a 1940 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a very good, quite unique entry.

Let me first talk about the flaws. Well, Bluto’s voice is distracting once again. That was certainly a big problem here. Also, Olive should have been more memorable, again. And the entire short isn’t particularly hilarious. But, it is still pretty good and I loved the theatre setting, quite a bit actually as it’s rarely been done in the series. Here it provides us some really good moments.

Popeye as both Romeo and also Juliet is really funny and he is the highlight of the whole film. The way the action revolves around him is great and I loved the use of spinach here, so clever and amusing. The animation is the standout aspect with such a great use of various stage items that are perfectly utilized into its action.

Shakespearean Spinach is unique in its setting, well utilized into the action and sometimes quite funny.

 My Rating – 4.1
