Ghosks Is the Bunk ReviewGhosks Is the Bunk Review

Ghosks Is the Bunk is a 1939 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a the best entry in the series in quite a while.

Ghosks Is the Bunk is easily the finest Popeye short in a while because it is just so good on so many levels. First of all, it is very authentic. Rarely do we see Bluto mock Popeye instead of fight him and to see the two scared by Bluto was so amusing. Bluto is excellent here and of course Popeye is great, but Olive continues to be forgettable unfortunately.

The ending should have been more memorable, but the other scenes are all great with the set-up at the beginning being so good with Popeye’s scared appearance being so funny. But I loved all of the inventive ways Bluto used to scare the two and it was great that the tides changed and the two scared him in the end. The structure works here, the humor is good and the film is eventually satisfying on most levels.

Ghosks Is the Bunk is so amusing with a very innovative and authentic approach to it and a great structure.

My Rating – 4.3
