The House Builder-Upper ReviewThe House Builder-Upper Review

The House Builder-Upper is a 1938 animated short from Popeye the Sailor series. It is a solid, but too typical entry.

Olive’s house burns down and it is up to Popeye to rebuild it. This is such a familiar premise that I’m not sure whether they’ve already done it or if it is something that they should have done a long time ago. Either way, it remains a familiar, standard storyline that doesn’t have anything unique or memorable about it.

Sure, there are some great moments to be had here. Popeye is particularly amusing with some quite funny lines of his and Olive is also pretty good. I also really liked that ending as well as the beginning. But Wimpy is wasted here as he gets nothing to do and the entire cartoon is just too standard and forgettable.

The House Builder-Upper has some funny moments and some great Popeye lines, but it is too familiar and forgettable otherwise.
