Knighty Knight Bugs (1958)

Knighty Knight Bugs ReviewKnighty Knight Bugs Review

Knighty Knight Bugs is a 1958 animated short from Looney Tunes starring Bugs Bunny. It is the only Oscar winning Bugs Bunny cartoon.

Bugs is the court jester of King Arthur and he must recover a singing sword from Yosemite Sam and his fire-breathing, sneezing dragon. This really is a great film, so well animated, scored and constructed. The only flaw I’ve had is the conclusion which should have been more memorable and the film isn’t hilarious, but it is pretty funny at times with some solid slapstick and gags.

It definitely deserved its Academy Award as it truly is a well made film. Bugs Bunny is excellent here as usual, but Yosemite Sam is the highlight and he was quite amusing. It was funny watching his incompetence and the dragon is also very memorable and so well put to use and providing many great gags. The castle is well used and the time period is superbly utilized and memorable. It is also very well paced and never at all rushed or prolonged.

Knighty Knight Bugs is an accomplished Looney Tunes cartoon with great animation, humor and excellent character interactions.
