Knick Knack (1989)

Knick Knack is Pixar’s fifth film and their last to be released in the eighties. I have to be honest and say that it is one of my least favorite films and for a number of reasons. First, while the animation itself is splendid and I like the colors in it as they are pleasant and fitting to the film’s theme, I however strongly dislike the character design, especially the design of our protagonist and the summer girl who is even worse. Yes, they are realistic, but that still doesn’t prevent them from being ugly and quite frankly not appealing at all.

The characters are also troublesome as the snowman Knick is very annoying and unlikable as the protagonist and the others are no better themselves. But the plot is fun and simple in a good way. It started off well and it ended on a high note but it is just too unlikable and even annoying to be enjoyed on a bigger scale. It is my least favorite Pixar short movie along with ‘Lava‘ which itself is also better than Knick Knack.

In the end, this is one of the worse Pixar shorts that has a fun plot and good ending and animation, but is undone by highly unlikable character design and just plain annoying characters themselves.
