The Jetsons Season 3 Review

The third season of The Jetsons is a solid conclusion to such a charming Hanna Barbera show.

You hear that music, Mr. Spacely?

That’s my cue to dance with my daughter!

The Jetsons Season 3 Review

………………………………………………….

Because the third season consists of only ten episodes, this review is thus going to be much shorter in length than the previous two. Comparing it with the other two, it is of course still infinitely inferior to the first classic season but it is somewhat better than the previous weaker season. I give the two a similar rating, but this is a better, shorter and more concise season.

Crime Games is such a mediocre opening of the season with a tired, uninspired gangster storyline. I dislike the gangster genre and I did not care for this one either. And Elroy having some sort of wild adventure is overly familiar by now.

ASTROnomical I.Q. finds Astro becoming a genius and attending a trivia show. In my opinion, this is a pretty solid episode with some wonderful moments, but having in mind that Astro is so great, the episode is never as great or as fun as he is.

The Jetsons Season 3 Review

………………………………………………….

9 to 5 to 9 finds Judy taking the responsibility and starting to work in order to earn money for a new car. As Judy-centric episodes go, this is a rather solid one with a good work ethic message. Invisibly Yours, George, on the other hand, finds George becoming invisible to a typically cliched, cartoon outcome.

Father/Daugher Dance is certainly one of the better Jetsons episodes and one of the most wonderful. It emphasizes the relationship between these two to great heights and the ending is truly heartwarming. Clean as a Hound’s Teeth is ridiculous in its premise where George gets dog’s teeth. This is something that never would happen in a much more plausible, classic first season.

Wedding Bells for Rosey is pretty much as Spacely put it – a robot soap opera. And that is of course done for better and for worse, but Rosie is reliably great. The Odd Pod finds the family getting their home wrecked by an exotic plant to decidedly mixed results.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 3 Review

………………………………………………….

Two Many Georges is about George getting himself cloned and still finding out that his family prefers his real self. It is not a great episode as it is familiar, but still sweet. Spacely for a Day is one of the better episodes of this season as it is nice seeing Spacely start to appreciate George for once. It is a satisfying finale to the season and the entire series.

Overall, I liked this season more than the previous one. It has its weaker, but also very good, competent episodes. Although I only loved the first season, I am still going to miss hanging out with The Jetsons who are such a fun, loving family.

Worst Episodes: Crime Games and Clean as a Hound’s Tooth.

Best Episodes: Father/Daughter Dance and Spacely for a Day.

The Jetsons Season 2 (1985)

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

…………………………………………………

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

The second season of The Jetsons is a major disappointment as it is so inferior to the previous classic season.

………………………………………………….

Jetson, you’re fired!

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

………………………………………………….

Yes, I did not love this one. And that is mainly because it lost energy and class as it was filmed two decades later and thus it is overly childish and not as mature or as funny as the first, infinitely better season. It’s a shame that we never got more of the 60s Jetsons as the 80s version pales in comparison.

Elroy Meets Orbitty is fine as these animal-centric episodes go. This pet creature is cute and endearing, but unfortunately does not serve too much purpose and is thus inferior to Astro. Rosie Come Home is actually one of the better episodes here which is emotional and quite lovely. I will take every Rosie episode I can get as they are too rare for some reason.

Solar Snoops is actually quite funny. The entire “disguise as a woman to spy somebody” concept has been done before on The Flintstones, but this is also a pretty good usage of that old idea and seeing George as Georgina produces many funny, though archaic scenes. Judy’s Birthday Surprise is okay, but somewhat dull as she is a boring character to me.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

………………………………………………….

SuperGeorge is of course ridiculously cartoony and I have just never been a fan of these old superhero episodes in classic cartoons. Family Fallout is pretty solid, though definitely not as great as the killer concept demanded.

Instant Replay is one of those message episodes and the message is familiar but greatly executed here and I loved George’s development in this episode. Fugitive Fleas, on the other hand, is too silly to be taken seriously.

S.M.A.S.H. again is about George and his boss but is better than most such typical episodes as their dynamic is particularly fun and effective here. One Strike, You’re Out is entirely forgettable whereas Mother’s Day for Rosie is cute and endearing, but not one of her better episodes. S’No Relative is one of those typical alien episodes – serviceable but far from memorable.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

………………………………………………….

Dance Time is okay and with good intentions, but is never really fun or funny. Judy Takes Off has both of the subplots working pretty solidly even though they never coalesce into a coherent whole. Winner Takes All is pretty formulaic and not memorable and The Mirrormoprh is one alien episode too many.

The Cosmic Courtship of George and Jane is a lot of fun and charm as I love the episodes that center on George and Jane’s marriage. This episode has some really charming and wonderful scenes. High Moon is boring and dated, but Hi-Tech Wreck is a pretty solid robot-centric episode and quite amusing.

Little Bundle of Trouble is actually a lot of good fun as the family takes a supposed baby in their house who turns out to be a thieving dwarf. An excellent scenario well played for laughs. Elroy in Wonderland is a pretty solid parody episode, but definitely not belonging in this futuristic show. The Swiss Family Jetson is pretty solid as these types of episodes go, but how many times is Spacely going to lay off George? Honestly??

Rip-Off Rosie has a pretty good premise and not so great, though competent execution. Fantasy Planet is awesome as this episode where each family member gets to live their own fantasy with bad consequences. A great message and everybody gets to have his or her time to shine.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

………………………………………………….

Both Space Bong and Haunted Halloween are annoying in their silliness. Astro’s Big Moment, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic as it makes use of a dog show for some great situational comedy. Jetsons’ Millions is also excellent as a particularly strong and funny Spacely/George outing.

The Wrong Stuff is fine, but not a particularly successful parody. The Vacation is the most familiar episode out of them all here quite probably as I’ve seen old flames of George and Jane before too. Team Spirit is a very annoying baseball episode whereas Future Tense is intriguing, but again too superheroic rather than scientific.

Far-Out Father finds Astro at his most infatuated, with a young poodle here and the end results are more than amusing and endearing. A pretty strong pet episode this one is. Dog Daze Afternoon is exactly the episode as this dog story is highly forgettable.

Grandpa and the Galactic Gold Digger literally destroys the character of Grandpa who was awesome before, but is now nothing more than an old perv. Very frustrating indeed. Robot’s Revenge is pretty strong and reliably so as George vs. Robot episodes have always been pretty good.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 2 Review

………………………………………………….

To Tell the Truth is not particularly memorable as a family piece whereas Boy George is one shrinking episode too many. Judy’s Elopement is again too much centered on Judy. The Century’s Best has a fine ending, but is basically a filler episode and A Jetson Christmas Carol is pretty much a typical, forgettable parody.

Overall, this was a pretty weak season of once great show. I liked some episodes quite a bit, but most were either rehashed or silly and the show lost its edge in the eighties with too much childish scenarios and not enough real science. A big disappointment.

Worst Episodes: Dance Time, High Moon, Space Bong, Team Spirit and Boy George.

Best Episodes: Solar Snoops, Instant Replay, The Cosmic Courtship of George and Jane, Fantasy Planet and Jetsons’ Millions.

The Jetsons Season 1 (1962)

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

…………………………………………………

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

The Jetsons is a science fiction comedy animated show that first premiered in 1962. It is one of Hanna-Barbera’s greatest classics.

………………………………………………….

Women drivers… ooh!

I ought’a be arrested for running this school

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

This came at a time when Hanna-Barbera was at the height of their powers. This came at the time of ‘The Flintstones’ and it honestly came pretty close to the quality of that wonderful classic show. I did not expect that and I was pleasantly surprised.

So the year is 2062 and it follows a family living in the 21st century meaning that it is pretty much an animated sitcom and a great one at that. This show is very old-fashioned at its core. Let me explain. It does happen in the future, a full century apart from its air date, but even though everything is very futuristic and far-fetched in terms of gadgetry and technology, at its core the family is very traditional and the series is at times quite sexist for instance. But for its flaws, it has that wonderful old sitcom quality to it that I loved it nonetheless. I like its humor, its score and especially its high quality, charming animation.

The first season aired in 1962 and 1963 and it consists of 24 episodes. As is usual for the very first season, I will first talk about each and every character and then I will comment upon each of its episodes. George is pretty similar to Fred Flintstone, though not as cranky and is much calmer in behavior. He is a pretty likable, memorable protagonist and he carries a lot of this show on his shoulders.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

Jane is a typical wife meaning that she is a housewife and doesn’t get much to do and rarely goes outside even. Her character is the most dated on the show but she is still a good, likable character and the two share a very good relationship that echoes the one between Fred and Wilma and although certainly not as strong, they are still lovable together.

Elroy is as forgettable as your usual child character, especially in a sitcom, but is I guess better than most and thankfully not used sparingly. Judy is also highly dated with her obsession with boys and again thankfully not used too sparingly. Astro is interesting as this human-like dog in speech and design and his episodes were mostly quite cute.

Rosie is awesome as their robot maid and I loved her so much that I wonder why she was so shortchanged in this first season as she got barely two episodes for herself. And of course Mr. Spacely is your typical 60s cartoon boss, but highly amusing and I loved the episodes with him and George as their dynamic is great. Also the episodes with his rival Cogswell were mostly superb.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

Rosey the Robot is the first Jetsons episode and it is absolutely wonderful! It is one of the most perfect episodes of this season as it gets everything right – not only does it introduce us to each of its characters competently but also to its world and it is just such a great story and a great emphasis on how good this character is. Rosey’s story is so well told here and highly endearing. A Date with Jet Screamer is the exact opposite, on the other hand. Very weak episode and your typical dated cartoon episode which relied too much on music and celebrity culture (and Judy).

The Space Car is pretty solid, but your typical switched identity, shenanigans cartoon episode and not particularly exciting in its format or execution, though competently made for sure. The Coming of Astro is awesome as the first introduction to their pet dog Astro. He is such a cute creation and this episode was a very interesting backstory in a way as he had to compete with a robot dog for a home which seemed very realistic for a future. It’s a moving story.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

Jetsons’ Night Out is the episode that reminded me the most of The Flintstones and the most sitcom-like episode of this bunch probably. Watching George and his boss Mr. Spacely try to get to a football game by lying to their wives was a very amusing affair. The Good Little Scouts is a dated episode as this scouting is very boring and not timely, but the Moon setting at least adds some spice to this tired story.

The Flying Suit is very futuristic and it was a lot of fun watching George fly in the titular flying suit and the business side to this episode was very well thought out as well. Rosey’s Boyfriend is a rare first season Rosie story and I really liked it, though it is inferior to her first episode. These two robots falling in love was a silly, but endearing tale.

Elroy’s TV Show started off unpromisingly, but ended off really well with the arrival of Spacely and I liked the entire development that happened in its second half. Uniblab gives us the titular worker robot and I am not a fan of his, but he does provide a great, amusing deal of frustration for George.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

A Visit from Grandpa is so good! It’s such a funny, frequently even hilarious timeless tale of how children treat their elders and how sometimes the grandpas live the most energetic of lives. It is a fun, futuristic spin on this story and it employs its futurism to terrific effect as it provides us a wonderful character in Grandpa Jetson and I am so sad that he did not get more episodes as he totally deserved them. Astro’s Top Secret is a typical business rivalry episode, but not the best of the bunch.

Las Venus is such a wonderful honeymoon type of episode and I loved the exploration of romantic space travel in the future and the shenanigans with George balancing his love and work life was superbly executed here. Elroy’s Pal is not my favorite as it revolves around superheroes and Elroy.

Test Pilot is such an enjoyable, really funny episode. George gets to be a test subject for an indestructible jacket and naturally this was a hilarious part. Millionaire Astro follows a custody battle between a millionaire and the Jetsons for Astro. I loved him here and this is such a relatable, highly emotional episode for any dog owner/adoptive parent.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

The Little Man is solid as these type of episodes go, but still I am really getting tired of “shrinking” episodes at large so I definitely did not love this one. Jane’s Driving Lesson is the reason why I called this show sexist. Oh my God, was this episode sexist! I honestly could not believe my eyes and my ears. But this came out in the early 60s so I forgave it and watching Jane torment the driving instructor by driving horribly and following their brilliant facial expressions definitely made my day as it was absolutely hysterical. It is one of the funniest things I’ve seen recently and that scene where she first enters the car killed me. And thankfully the episode ended on a high, less hateful note so that way they could be forgiven more easily.

G.I. Jetson is not the greatest episode and it takes its time to get there, but it eventually does get there with a surprisingly great, funny use of Uniblab. He pleasantly reminded me of HAL 9000 from ‘2001’. Miss Solar System is such a funny, perfectly executed classical sitcom episode and I loved Jane here and how she proved George wrong by winning the titular title.

………………………………………………….

The Jetsons Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

Private Property is quite entertaining and one of the better Cogswell/Spacely rivalry episodes and it features such a funny conclusion. Dude Planet is probably the most unabashedly romantic episode of this bunch, but the one that did not utilize on its great premise to the fullest extent.

TV or Not TV is a shenanigans episode and not my cup of tea as it relies too heavily on paranoia. Elroy’s Mob is not the greatest finale. Finally we got to see the school of the future and that was fun, but the rest of the episode was typical and not as engaging for me personally.

Overall, the first season of The Jetsons is very good with some not so great episodes, but with the majority being very good or downright great with many either funny or emotional stories and I loved how comedic, charming and ultimately endearing it is.

Worst Episodes: A Date with Jet Screamer, Astro’s Top Secret, Elroy’s Pal and The Little Man.

Best Episodes: Rosey the Robot, The Coming of Astro, A Visit from Grandpa, Las Venus, Millionaire Astro, Jane’s Driving Lesson and Miss Solar System.

Trollhunters Season 1 (2016)

Trollhunters Season 1 Review

…………………………………………………

Trollhunters Season 1 Review

Trollhunters is a 2016 fantasy animated series directed by Guillermo del Toro. It is a pretty good, albeit far from great effort from this famous director.

………………………………………………….

If it’s everyone, it must be a conspiracy!

………………………………………………….

Trollhunters Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

Now his shift to family friendly entertainment was mostly smooth and well done. It is a fun, frequently even moving show. It serves its purpose and it is mostly respectably crafted and never really bad. But it is not great mostly because of its plot which is a typically cliched hero’s journey and rarely anything more than that. It was predictable and rarely as exciting as it should have been.

I disliked this show’s tendency toward repetitive and dragging storytelling. It was certainly overlong and I would say that 26 episodes should have been 16 in my opinion as this was not as epic of a story and thus it did not justify that length.

Let’s talk about the characters. I don’t know what are they going to do with Jim as Anton Yelchin has died and now they do now have his voice. The character himself is your typical heroic protagonist and I really did not care for him. Having him at the center was a giant hurdle for me that the movie never managed to overcome.

………………………………………………….

Trollhunters Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

Claire was at first a very cliched female love interest and a character from the past honestly, but eventually she became much more heroic and she joined the action which was great. Their relationship was quite solid even though I did not really like their characters. Toby is your typical fat and funny sidekick and although he sometimes was funny, he was mostly too cliched and over-the-top.

Now to the good stuff. Yes, the creatures were much better than the humans here. Aargh is such a sweet character and his death was very tragic to witness. Blinky is another very heartwarming, lovable character and I really liked him. Strickler was also very interesting and well developed. His shift to the good was quite well done. As for the villains, they were mostly really good and quite creepy and effective for children. Not to mention capable and powerful.

………………………………………………….

Trollhunters Season 1 Review

………………………………………………….

The villains in Trollhunters led to such good action and they are the best parts of the show which tends to go pretty dark at times and those were the highlights. Whenever mayhem ensued, I was not a fan. But whenever it went dark and with well executed, dark action scenes, I was having a blast. I loved the utilization of magic, the suit and the trolls, all very well done.

The animation is definitely very good as this CGI is actually very competent for a TV show. The character designs are highly typical, but the backgrounds and the visual effects were mostly terrific, especially fantastic for TV standards. The score is also very good and that opening theme was quite memorable. The show really has a good attention to detail and it was so well crafted on every technical level.

Trollhunters is a good, but not great show. This first season ended with a great scene that teased the second season so well. This was an overlong and cliched in plot story, but some characters are memorable (though some are dull), the action is stupendously executed and the technicalities are all superb. In the end, it is a good show that should prove great for children.

Worst Episodes: Young Atlas, Mudslinging and Roaming Fees May Apply.

Best Episodes: It’s About Time, A Night to Remember and Something Rotten This Way Comes.

…………………………………………………

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 8-10 Review

Here is my review of seasons 8, 9 and 10 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as I am putting them all in one review for obvious reasons.

………………………………………………….

You are truly exceptional students and I am proud to call you my equals

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 8-10 Review

………………………………………………….

These are known as “Red Sky” episodes. From season 8 to the end of the series’ run, suddenly you did not have Krang and Shredder, well mostly, and Dregg took over. He was at first overly typical, but he grew on me as he became more powerful and obsessed with killing the turtles. He was a worthy villain. But these seasons are much more serious and less funny in tone and although that gave it its edge, I was still disappointed by that choice as I found the humor the best aspect of this series as a whole so the decision to get rid of it for the most part was ridiculous to me.

Get Shredder! is actually a pretty good, action oriented episode that finds the two villains for once pretty capable and tough and that was refreshing to witness. They are both superb here and I am at once both glad and sad that they got rid of Channel 6 crew eventually. Wrath of the Rat King has Burne turning against the TMNT and I thought that storyline was interesting, but not fully explored. And also we see the end of the Rat King in this episode as he finally gets arrested.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 8-10 Review

………………………………………………….

State of Shock is a typical premise executed solidly, but still it was overly familiar and I was mostly bored by it. Cry H.A.V.O.C.! actually has a pretty solid, respectable conflict in its plot and I thought it was mostly a very engaging, interesting episode that got a weak conclusion in its subsequent sequels.

Yes, H.A.V.O.C. in the Streets is quite boring as an episode that really did not do anything for me. As I said above, it was a good idea, but maybe for just one episode and the rest resorted to too much action. Enter: Krakus is more of the same, but at least it has more fun, memorable action in it.

Cyber-Turtles is overly ridiculous in its storyline and with such silly, ludicrous sci-fi elements to it. Turtle Trek is a weak episode as it isn’t really a memorable conclusion to the eight season although it does dispose of Krang and Shredder for a while.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 8-10 Review

………………………………………………….

The Unknown Ninja opens the ninth season in such a mediocre manner as it introduces us to Carter who is a young African American ally of the TMNT. I was bored by this character as I found him forgettable, shallow and although an improvement over insufferable Zach, he was still thoroughly unnecessary. Also we are introduced to Lord Dregg here. Dregg of the Earth continues this story in a forgettable manner, but I guess it was an improvement that finally we see some serious continuity in these three last seasons.

The Wrath of Medusa features a pretty solid villain and I guess Carter’s role here is the best in his run. The New Mutation sees the Turtles becoming to mutate into monstrous creatures and I never really liked that development and I found it not fitting in style to this show at all.

The Showdown is the weakest episode of this bunch with a very annoying, typical and dull story and action whereas Split-Second introduces a new foe who is very forgettable and boring. Carter, the Enforcer is another mediocre episode, but at least April is becoming pretty proactive and helpful by now. Doomquest is a pretty solid finale for having April finally expose Dregg to the world as a villain.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 8-10 Review

………………………………………………….

The Return of Dregg opens the final season in a weak manner as I have always found his various henchmen to be very forgettable and uninspired and this episode relies on them way too much. The Beginning of the End is another forgettable episode with an overly typical plot and villain goal.

In The Power of Three, Carter leaves the Turtles and Dregg enlists the help of Krang and Shredder so it is a pretty important episode plotwise. A Turtle in Time is actually a very good, pretty memorable action oriented episode that finds Dregg at one of his most powerful and I liked its various plot points and what they led into.

Turtles to the Second Power has the final appearance of Shredder and Krang and I have to say that I absolutely loved what they did with them here. They helped the Turtles unknowingly by fighting Lord Dregg himself which was an excellent choice, but their dynamic and how friendly they have become to one another was a lot of fun and this villain versus villain angle was great here. Mobster from Dimension X, on the other hand, is anything but interesting as its villain is a typical silly gangster and the plot is stupid.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 8-10 Review

………………………………………………….

The Day the Earth Disappeared is a pretty entertaining build up to the finale with Dregg becoming more and more unstable in such a fun fashion. Divide and Conquer is honestly a fabulous end to the season and the entire show as it has Dregg super powered and Turtles for once using both their brains and brawn to fight him and beat him in the end in a very thoroughly, surprisingly smartly executed manner. It was a great final fight and the ending itself where Splinter said they are now his equals was just a perfect way to end the entire series.

So all in all, the ninth season was quite weak and the worst of the entire run, but the eighth one was solid and the tenth is actually one of the series’ best. I liked the villain, I loved what they did with Krang and Shredder and they gave us a great finale. These Red Sky seasons were too serious, but admirably different. Overall, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a very flawed, silly show, but fun and funny and I am sad that I ended it.

Worst Episodes: H.A.V.O.C. in the Streets!, The Unknown Ninja and The Showdown.

Best Episodes: Get Shredder!, The Wrath of Medusa, A Turtle in Time and Divide and Conquer.

My Rating – 3.4

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Review

…………………………………………………

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Review

The seventh season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is half pretty good and half mediocre leading to a messy season.

………………………………………………….

It was about time this show got educational

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Review

………………………………………………….

That is because it consists of one main season of fourteen episodes and most are pretty good there, but it also has a sideseason where they travel to European countries and those thirteen episodes are mostly very mediocre.

Tower of Power sees the Turtles visit Paris and it has its moments being one of the better episodes here. But Rust Never Sleeps is a weaker second half of their Paris trip and it isn’t particularly educational for children which these episodes should have been.

A Real Snow Job is in the Alps and unfortunately it doesn’t utilize on its great setting at all leading to a frustratingly dull and forgettable episode. I have recently been to Venice and I was thus immensely disappointed in Venice on the Half-Shell which is incredibly weak and the villains are incompetent once again.

Artless is easily the best of the European Vacation episodes as it features a story which should have been done many seasons ago. The turtles are mistaken for their eponymous painters and the results are stellar and funny. Ring of Fire is probably the most forgettable episode of this bunch as I cannot recall it all that well.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Review

………………………………………………….

The Irish Jig Is Up doesn’t use its Irish setting at all and is frankly very annoying in its stupid plot and situations. The worst of these episodes for sure. Shredder’s New Sword is similar to other episodes where he seeks some sort of sword, but at least the inclusion of Merlin spruced things up a bit.

The Lost Queen of Atlantis is well animated, but surprisingly annoying in its use of April and actually very slight when the setting should have provided some great adventure. Turtles on the Orient Express was a good idea, but the execution is mediocre with too much action and frenetic pacing.

April Gets in Dutch is very familiar in its use of April and an overall plot whereas Northern Lights Out is also very disappointing and it doesn’t utilize on the Norwegian setting at all. Elementary, My Dear Turtle should have been fun, but it wasn’t as I disliked their version of Sherlock Holmes and the episode was mostly just a gimmick.

And now to the good stuff which is the main season. Night of the Dark Turtle is a weak start to this season with an annoying superhero story and Donatello. The Starchild is surprisingly strong and stellar in terms of storytelling and especially emotion as that third act was a great twist and it provided a touching conclusion to the story. The Legend of Koji is another exceptionally strong episode where they travel to Ancient Japan and Shredder is very good here.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Review

………………………………………………….

Convicts from Dimension X relies too much on Vernon and Irma and I really dislike those two annoying bitches so of course I wasn’t a fan of this episode. White Belt, Black Heart is a very forgettable gangster episode.

Night of the Rogues finds the Turtles having to face Leatherhead, Tempestra, The Rat King and so many more of the iconic TMNT villains and the results are great and a lot of fun. They should have done this type of episode much more often. I disliked Attack of the Neutrinos of course as I hate those brats.

Escape from the Planet of the Turtleoids is fun and solid, but should have been better given the premise and it’s too frenetic in pace. Revenge of the Fly again finds Baxter Stockman getting needlessly horribly punished and I have never understood why they continued to sadistically torture this poor character.

Atlantis Awakes is another episode about Atlantis and it is ridiculous that we got two distinctly different Atlantean episodes and both are not very good. Dirk Savage: Mutant Hunter! features another one of those disposable villains and the episode itself is forgettable.

Invasion of the Krangazoids is a lot of fun! Seeing Krang make an army of Krangs was extremely entertaining and the banter between all of them was so funny but also seeing his true original form for the first time was unforgettable and finally we saw how he looked like and I liked that look.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Review

………………………………………………….

Combat Land is another one of those episodes where someone wants to use the Turtles for something and it is repetitive and rehashed. As for the finale, Shredder Triumphant!, it is a very strong, fun episode with has too much action, but that is to be expected from the season finale and I really liked how Shredder and the rest of the villains were competent for a change.

All in all, this TMNT season is hurt by its unfortunate European Vacation sideseason which is dull and not all that educational, but the main season is actually one of the better seasons of this show with a lot of fun action, a great use of its villains and a couple of entertaining, really well crafted episodes.

Worst Episodes: Ring of Fire, the Irish Jig Up and April Gets in Dutch.

Best Episodes: Artless, The Starchild, Night of the Rogues, Invasion of the Krangazoids and Shredder Triumphant!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 6 Review

The sixth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is more of the same with a couple of standout episodes, but with most of them being quite mediocre.

………………………………………………….

I can see now why they call her Shreeka

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 6 Review

………………………………………………….

Rock Around the Block is pretty solid and fun, it is also filled with a surprising amount of well executed action. However, the drama around the Technodrome felt silly and it did not belong in this particular season. Krangenstein Lives! is actually a pretty good, hilarious episode with all that funny banter between Schredder and Krang plus seeing Krang overpowered was awesome. The only downside to this episode is Michelangelo’s unnecessary video game subplot.

Super Irma is, needless to say, awful. Seeing Irma in a full-on episode and with superpowers was just incredibly campy and annoying. It was awful in premise and it is bad in execution. Adventures in Turtle-Sitting is a rehashed episode where the turtles become toddlers and it was boring once again.

Sword of Yurikawa is absolutely phenomenal! It is one of the best episodes so far in the series’ run as it finally gives us great action and a well crafted storyline that actually is entertaining and interesting. The twist with Splinter being the ninja was well handled and the fight scenes here were superb. Return of the Turtleoid is okay, but honestly a bit forgettable.

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 6 Review

………………………………………………….

Shreeka’s Revenge is the second greatest episode of this season and although campy, it is mostly positively campy and just a lot of fun with its memorable villain and some entertaining action scenes. Too Hot to Handle finds Vernon bonding with his nephew and of course both him and his nephew are too obnoxious too handle for one entire episode.

Nightmare in the Lair is a messy episode, but then again seeing Krueger in TMNT was quite amusing and this episode’s weird, horror-like atmosphere and approach was quite original for the show. Phantom of the Sewers is one Phantom of the Opera episode too many.

Donatello Trashes Slash is definitely entertaining and Slash is much more menacing here, but the episode should have been better given its great ingredients. Leonardo is Missing is one of those taken identities and chaos ensues episodes and this one is pretty tired.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 6 Review

Snakes Alive! is actually a very good episode as finally we witness a flaw and weakness to Leonardo as he has a fear of snakes. Him learning to fight that fear with the help from Splinter was some good dramatic stuff. But Polly Wanna Pizza is quite silly in its premise and forgettable in its use of the titular parrot.

The final two episodes of the season are very weak. Mr. Nice Guy is quite ridiculous as it sees Raphael suddenly become obnoxiously nice. I’ve seen this type of episode before and it has always been too silly and cartoony. Sleuth on the Loose is even worse and actually obnoxious in Agatha Marbles’ character who annoys the heck out of me, but at least this is her final appearance. Thank God!

So in the end, the sixth season of TMNT has its absolutely terrific gems of episodes and is mostly entertaining, but most of the episodes here were either barely passable or even mediocre and bad with too many campy, silly outcomes and annoying guest characters.

Worst Episodes: Super Irma and Sleuth on the Loose.

Best Episodes: Sword of Yurikawa and Shreeka’s Revenge.

My Rating – 3.4

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 5 Review

The fifth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an improvement over the previous one, but still weaker than the previous three seasons.

My Brother, the Bad Guy introduces us to Shredder’s brother and that was interesting. We have seen his mother before and that was a better episode, but this was still very well crafted, different than usual and one of the season’s best episodes. Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko is one of those episodes where Mickey meets one of his idols and is forgettable in its typical plot.

Enter: Mutagen Man is another one of those mutagen episodes and we have had plenty of them by now and this one is pretty much more of the same. Donatello’s Badd Time is one of the worst episodes of this bunch with a ridiculous and campy use of annoying hick characters and a stupid plot.

Michelangelo Meets Bugman Again says it all It is a repeat and rehash of the previous storyline and nothing more than that. Muckman Messes Up is actually a very good episode with a fine use of the new mutants, fun action and entertaining storyline.

Napoleon Bonafrog: Colossus of the Swamps is a solid episode with such a memorable, fun and villainous Krang whereas Raphael Versus the Volcano is also pretty solid with a funny humor and a great use of my favorite turtle.

Landlord of the Flies is another one of those Baxter Stockman episodes and it is okay, but again I want some meaningful plot progression for this character. Donatello’s Duplicate we’ve seen before in concept, but still it was a fine idea to show us just how valuable he is to the green team.

The Ice Creature Cometh should have been more memorable given the fun setting and monster while Leonardo Cuts Loose is great for featuring Casey Jones, but there was not nearly enough of him here unfortunately.

Pirate Radio is one of the worst parts here with a ridiculous and annoying use of rock music and a stupid plot. Raphael, Turtle of a Thousand Faces is perfectly fine and fun, but far from the greatest Raphael storyline in my opinion.

Leonardo, the Renaissance Turtle is so forgettable that I can hardly remember watching it and Zach and the Alien Invaders is not as annoying as the usual Zach episodes, but still he frustrates me and he totally is such a brat.

Welcome Back Polarisoids again features those creatures in a pretty weak and admittedly dull story whereas Michelangelo, the Sacred Turtle is campy and silly in its premise too much for its own sake.

Planet of the Turtleoids is actually a pretty good finale for this season. Part 2 is better than Part 1, but still this is such an entertaining story and those new turtles are really memorable and well explored along with a good conflict and a pretty solid humor.

Overall, this fifth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is better than the previous season with a couple of truly fun episodes, but most stories here are rehashed from previous seasons and either dull or forgettable.

Worst Episodes: Enter: Mutagen Man, Michalangelo Meets Bugman Again and Pirate Radio.

Best Episodes: My Brother, the Bad Guy, Muckman Messes Up and Planet of the Turtloids: Episode 2.

My Rating – 3.5

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 Review

The fourth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a new low for the series with too many either rehashed or ridiculous episodes and not enough great ones.

Shredder, come see my newest invention

………………………………………………….

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 Review

………………………………………………….

Plan Six from Outer Space finds a good use of Rocksteady and Bebop and they are quite a lot of fun here. Turtles of the Jungle is your typical gimmicky episode, but it is solid and far from the worst that the setting could have led to.

Michelangelo Toys Around is just a ploy to sell more toys to kids with a silly storyline and not enough humor. Peking Turtle is much better than the previous episode as it is unique in the Japanese setting and it is an action-packed, fun little episode.

Shredder’s Mom is definitely one of the season’s finest episodes. Although silly, it is positively silly and his mom is so funny and the banter between the two is hilarious. This episode is certainly out there, but it is so much fun that I could not resist it. Four Turtles and a Baby is silly and typical. The Neutrinos are getting dull by now, seriously.

The toy collector wants to collect the turtles for his collection in Turtlemaniac – a silly, but actually rather entertaining episode. Rondo in New York, on the other hand, is so forgettable that I forgot it entirely.

Planet of the Turtles has a killer premise, but not that great execution. It should have been much funnier and much more entertaining. Name That Toon is too silly, forgettable and ultimately uninspired.

Menace Maestro, Please is a dull opera episode that works as a pretty weak parody. Super Hero for a Day is actually a pretty good superhero parody that is silly, but certainly a lot of fun.

Back to the Egg is a guilty pleasure. It is silly and childish, but seeing Michelangelo and Leonardo as little boys definitely provided a couple of heartwarming/fun moments. The Turtles and the Hare is also solid and definitely enough fun to compensate for all of its silliness. This show truly is silly.

Once Upon a Time Machine is also solid and I would like to get more of these time travel TMNT episodes as they can be surprisingly solid. Son of Return of the Fly II has a forgettable computer, but Baxter is always a welcome villain on this show.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 Review

………………………………………………….

Raphael Knocks ‘Em Dead is entirely implausible, but seeing Raphael become a stand-up comedian was sometimes cringy, but mostly entertaining as he has always been my favorite turtle. Bebop and Rocksteady Conquer the Universe is delightfully silly and fun, but far from great. These two are amusing nonetheless.

Raphael Meets His Match should have been better given the premise, but it does have its sweet moments between Raphael and that lizard lady. Slash – The Evil Turtle from Dimension X introduces this new villain who should be important, but is ultimately not all that well utilized.

Leonardo Lightens Up has a solid premise, but Leonardo still remains boring and this episode was cringe-worthy in its humor. One of the worst parts of the season for sure. Were-Rats from Dimension X is not that great use of the Rat King as we’ve seen the kidnapping of Irma and Vernon plot many times before.

Funny, They Shrunk Michelangelo is your cliched cartoon shrinking episode and it is so dull and weakly animated leading to one of the worst episodes of the fourth season. The Big Zipp Attack is your typical alien episode and one of the most boring and inconsequential ones.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 Review

………………………………………………….

Donatello Makes Time features a solid new gadget, a fun mad scientist villain and very good scenarios and action leading to one of the season’s finest entries. Farewell, Lotus Blossom! is okay, but I was never a fan of her character so I didn’t love this episode too.

Rebel Without a Fin is such a ridiculous, cliched episode where April gets turned into a fish. It is both dull and uninspired. Rhino-Man is actually pretty solid and definitely different than usual in its interesting, fun plot.

Michelangelo Meets Bugman is fine. Again silly in superheroics, but with a good and memorable use of Michelangelo. Poor Little Rich Turtle is actually pretty well crafted and entertaining and watching the foursome tackle an annoying teenage girl was a lot of fun.

What’s Michelangelo Good For? is solid and somewhat well executed, but I want more respect for this character on this show. The Dimension X Story is an action-packed, fun episode that reminded me of the first season pleasantly. I want more of these episodes in my TMNT.

Donatello’s Degree is one situational and Donatello episode too many with forgettable Irma as well. The Big Cufflink Caper! is too crime-oriented and gangster-like for my personal taste.

Leonardo Versus Tempestra is an over-the-top, cartoony video game episode with a good villain and fine action. Splinter Vanishes has too much going in it, but Leatherhead and the Rat King are always welcome villains.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 4 Review

………………………………………………….

Raphael Drives ‘Em Wild is another one of those dull, stupid body swap episodes and by this point the show has repeated itself way too often. Beyond the Donatello Nebula is very interesting, though not well executed in its plot. I want another one of these episodes, but done right.

Big Bug Blunder has too much action and too much everything going on in it. The Foot Soldiers Are Revolting has some fun banter between Shredder and Krang, but should have been better as a whole. Unidentified Flying Leonardo is way too silly and stupid to work as a good finale for the season.

Overall, this fourth season is very weak and mostly dull and rehashed. It has its good and funny episodes, but I wanted more action and originality in it and Shredder and Krang need to get back on this show soon.

Worst Episodes: Four Turtles and a Baby, Name That Toon, Leonardo Lightens Up and Unidentified Flying Leonardo.
Best Episodes: Peking Turtle, Shredder’s Mom and Donatello Makes Time.

My Rating – 3.3

The Pirates of Dark Water (1991)

The Pirates of Dark Water Review

The Pirates of Dark Water Review

The Pirates of Dark Water is a 1991 fantasy animated show from Hanna-Barbera. It is a solid, fun adventure.

………………………………………………….

Really? Do you really think I resemble royalty?

No, Monkey bird. But you’re a royal pain!

The Pirates of Dark Water Review

………………………………………………….

This is one of those 90s shows that feature high adventure and a memorable crew. It surely reminded me ‘Conan the Adventurer’, but surprisingly it is a better series despite my nostalgia for Conan. It has its flaws, but is mostly just a solid, fun time to be had and it is one of the more underrated animated series from the nineties.

The storytelling is quite good for a 90s cartoon. It does have its typical plot trappings at times, but it flows well and the pacing is mostly good. Of the twenty one episodes only a couple are truly phenomenal, but there aren’t any stinkers in here so it is a good batch of episodes overall. It is a shame that it was never completed though.

The Pirates of Dark Water has pretty good, though highly typical characters. But they are admittedly very well developed. Ren is your typical hunky protagonist and Tula is also too bland, but admirably a strong female character.

Ioz is more memorable and interesting than the two and I liked his relationship towards others and his bitterness is fun. Niddler is a Monkey bird and thus has an interesting, different look to him, but again he is your typical animal sidekick who is more annoying than anything else. Needle from Conan is exactly the same.

The Pirates of Dark Water Review

………………………………………………….

My favorite episodes are the first and especially the last one, so well done. But A Drop of Darkness is the most emotional and mature episode here and is thus the standout one for me. The score is solid and I really liked its opening. But the animation is its greatest achievement as it surely is magnificent for its time period with good scenery, colors and character design.

Overall, The Pirates of Dark Water isn’t as fun as it should have been and is mostly just standard fare, but it’s pretty solid nonetheless with memorable characters, good adventures and a specially terrific animation for its time.

Worst Episodes: King Niddler, The Little Leviathan and Sister of the Sword.

Best Episodes: The Quest, A Drop of Darkness and The Living Treasure.

My Rating – 3.4
