A Sunbonnet Blue ReviewA Sunbonnet Blue Review

A Sunbonnet Blue is a 1937 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty archaic entry.

Yes, this is something that very early Merry Melodies would do, probably around 1933 or 1934. Not only that, but it felt as if it was even a Silly Symphony at times which was also not great, identity-wise. I like my Warner Bros. cartoons done in an original and different way and not copying Disney which is exactly what they did here.

Watching a bunch of mice with hats had some charming moments, but it was mostly not particularly engaging and it was a typical storyline very familiarly executed. The animation though is very good and the characters look sweet and the film sounds good too.

A Sunbonnet Blue is not a bad Merry Melody, but it is certainly a weaker one that copies Disney a bit too much.

My Rating – 3.3
